For many new users of Ubuntu or Kubuntu, the latest release of version 7.10 (Gutsy Gibbon) could be your first introduction to upgrading to the next release. Fortunately, the process is simple and probably the hardest task you will encounter is waiting for the iso download to complete (yes, it's that easy!).
So instead of reinventing the wheel and write another "how-to upgrade", below are links to tutorials to help with upgrading Ubuntu or Kubuntu from 7.04 (Feisty Fawn) to 7.10 (Gutsy Gibbon).
Reminder:
- - You can only upgrade from 7.04 (Feisty Fawn)
- - Make sure your current installation is up to date before attempting to upgrade.
- - Before starting, make sure you backup your system.
onlyubuntu.blogspot.com - Great instructions for first time users upgrading their Ubuntu System (does not include Kubuntu). Very well explained with images and shows you how to verify the version when completed.
ubuntu-tutorials.com - If you are looking for 'straight to the point' upgrade instructions, author Chris Edwards covers both Ubuntu (Gnome desktop) and Kubuntu (KDE desktop) upgrades, including using the Alternate CD. Make sure you read the comments first for additional information before proceeding.
If you are running Ubuntu Server edition, Chris also has instructions for upgrading to Ubuntu 7.10 Server.
ubuntu.com - of course! If text based instructions are not cutting it for you, ubuntu.com site includes images that make it a no brainer. Upgrade instructions include Network upgrade for both Desktop and Server versions.
kubuntu.org - for upgrading Kubuntu, kubuntu.org also includes upgrade instructions with many KDE screenshots to easily guide you through the process.
Good luck!!
