Still getting spam email through Yahoo Spam Guard? Do you have an annoying friend who just won't leave you alone? Stop them from reaching your inbox, and automatically delete their messages by adding their email address or entire domain name (such as spammer.com) to the block address list in your Yahoo Mail account settings.
With blocked address list, Yahoo allows you to add up to 500 addresses and domains. Best of all, when a message is blocked, the email does not bounce back to the sender and they will never know what happen.
To set up a block address list, logon to your Yahoo Mail account and click on the Options link under the Search button. Then select Mail Options.
Next, select Spam in the left panel…
and start adding email addresses or domains to the Blocked Email Addresses list by typing in the field and clicking on Add.
When you are finished, don't forget to save your changes by clicking on the Save Changes button at the top of the main window (above the word Spam).
Later you can always come back and remove any email address or domain from the list by highlighting an entry and clicking on Remove (and saving your changes).
Comments on How To Block Email Addresses And Domains In Yahoo Mail
In your information on spam, it mentions configuring the Spam Guard tool to add the sender to the blocked address list when I mark a message as spam. I could not find out where to do this - please give specific steps so that I don't have to continually go to options and block the individual address or domain.
@Trudy West
I think you may have mis-read the article. Spamguard can only be configured manually. Basically you are black listing addresses by adding them to the spam list.
How do I add spam already in the spam box to my blocked addresses without opening the message?
YEAH! Same as Miriam Umpleby : how do we? You can't add the address if you didn't open the email first and that could mean VIRUSES OR SPYWARE OR…How can we block senders or domains without opening emails or adding them ONE BY ONE in the block list? How can we block MULTIPLE senders or domains just by checking their emails? HOW???? :(((( I'm sick and tired of SPAM.I NEVER check the "i want to receive offers from partners…","i agree to give my informations to third part…" box. NEVER! Still get TONS of spam emails.
@Doina
Easy…right click on the message and select "View Full Headers" then look for the address next to the "From" field.
Unfortunately, I don't see a better way to do this with selecting multiple messages.
But…that means to open the mail.Because if you do that without opening, it will say "The selected message is still loading. Please wait a moment and try again".Don't you risk getting viruses if you OPEN the mail(from de spam folder) ? Am i missing something?
Isn't there a way to just receive email from your contact list only?
nice information regarding to block sender in yahoo.
I keep getting error on top left side of screen when i hit the save after adding a blocked email. It wont save entered email entries. Why and what could i possibly do?
I want to block a person by his name.Pls help me if i can do so.
As one person is creating his ID in different domain and send me emails.SO i wat to block that person by his name,Is it possible?
block google
Most of the scams will say a foreign name or it will say FEDX. Or it will say hello at the beginning. Its usually a strange greeting. All I do is delete as I go down the list
I can't open my e-mail, why? it keeps saying the certificate is expired what does that mean?
@Doina: You can't get a virus simply by opening an email. You have to physically click on any attachments that the email contain. THAT will give you virusus. I always show the preview pane below my inbox so that I can highlight the email address and copy and paste it into my spam blocker.
Great interview. I'd like to see more.
you mentioned that when a message is blocked, the email does not bounce back to the sender and they will never know what happen. What if I WANT to send them an AUTOMATIC message every time they send me an email. My ex wife is send me Viagra links because i am having another child with my current wife. Please help !!!!!!!
I don't see what is so good about the emails not getting bounced back and just being deleted by yahoo.
If they were bounced back, chances are that the spammers database would delete your name/email address and not pass it on to others and others and others….
Does anybody else think that is the way the system works? IS this the way the system works?
Eventually spammers would keep getting rejections from the email address and give up, right?
Why not just reject the email and let the scammers know that they are not welcome and can get stuffed!
I agree - can you block someone & have the message bounce back to let them know they are blocked? Same issue here, stalking ex!
I have been following this kind of commentary for quite some time. I thought I would check in again and see if Yahoo has made it possible to block an address and have a reply sent to that person so they know you are not receiving their mail. I NEED this option desperately… Having this option would greatly benefit so many of us. People currently have to change their email address if they want to make sure an unwanted someone gets the message (don't email me anymore!). Help. Anyone know if there has been progress on this yet through Yahoo? Yahoo please hear our need for this option. Thanks!
Yahoo is hot
YOU RESPONEDED TO BLOCKING EMAILS, BUT NOT TO BLOCKING A DOMAIN NAME.
HOW TO BLOCK A DOMAIN NAME WHEN SPAMMERS ARE USEING ROBO ADDRESSES.
WHAT ARE THE ACCEPABLE WILD CARD CHARACTERS.
WHAT ARE WILD CARD CHARACTERS THAT CAN BE USED TO BLOCK ROBO SPAMMERS/SENDER ADDRESSES?
Thanks but I WANT the person to know they are blocked. Any ideas??
@N:
Problem being rob address and robo domain names, or the domains are bounced.
Acceptable characters are, ? for 1 character, and an * for multiple characters.
But for some reason that is not working with yahoo mail.
Yahoo used to have an option to select "this is not my email address", but surprisingly went away.
Still trying to find a way to block robo spam.
Yahoo wants you to get spam. E-mail is their business. You used to be able to block domains in free e-mail like .ru by adding it to your list of blocked addresses. They took that feature away. Maybe it is still available in paid e-mail. If spammers would get e-mail back saying you blocked them, they would simply add you to another of their host of spam lists that they operate. In my opinion, yahoo needs to give us back the option to block domains. I don't want any e-mail from russia or algeria, etc. AND I certainly am not interested in anything a bulk e-mailer has to send me. If they are not in my e-mail address book, simply kick the e-mail.
Yahoo has many bulk e-mailer accounts they let entities operate. They allow it! It's a joke we are allowed to block 500 addresses. That alone suggests there is a much deeper problem. Simply right click on the e-mail you wish to block and choose "show full header". This will not open the e-mail itself. Pick out the e-mail that sent it and add it to your block list. Just the @unwanted.com part will block all from that domain. If it's from a bulk e-mailer that has permission to send using a bulk I.D. good luck, so far I haven't been able to find a way to block those.

I, too, want to block email and have the sender know they are blocked. There used to be a way to set up an automatic reply to tell them they were disliked, but it seems to be gone. Anyone know a way to do this now?
WHEN I TRY TO BLOCK A SENDER OR DOMAIN MY TABLET COMES UP WITH"UNFORTUNATELY E MAIL HAS STOPPED" ANY IDEAS WHY ?
I was getting lots and lots of emails from an unknown user in my account. But I didn't know how to block that particular user. I came across your post and followed your step by step. I succeeded in blocking the particular user. Thank you for posting this information. If you are having any problem related to Yahoo then you can visit the given link for any reference. https://tackk.com/z80bzf
I too am having a similar problem Ernie G mentioned. I can block a single email address but when you have, what I'm assuming they call robo addresses, the same @address with one single digit changed in the name, I run into a brick wall. I can block an individual address all day but when you have multiple emails coming from the same domain address it gets pointless and annoying. I have yet to find a way to block a specific domain from emailing me at all.
Just lately I have been receiving numerous ads with the domain of Palau. A small island in the pacific. I would like to block that domain .pw. This is a big problem Yahoo. Email through Yahoo was once a vital link in my life and that of my family. But now with the appearance of these insufferable spammers, as well as the deluge of poltical and cause emails, it has become near unusable.
We need to block domains.
Is there a way to block email so that the sender DOES KNOW that you have blocked them? There used to be a way to do that, where you could essentially send the message "recipient does not like you" or "recipient has BLOCKED you." There are instances in which this would be preferable to secretly blocking them. I asked this 2 1/2 years ago, and really would appreciate a reply. Thanks!
The whole point of my post was to ask how to block incoming messages so that the sender DOES KNOW they have been blocked.
There used to be a way to bounce a message back with a tag line something like "Recipient DOES NOT LIKE YOU." Is that option still available?
If not, why not? Like blocking someone on Twitter, it sends a stronger message, which is appropriate at times.
Thanks!
I have blocked individual addresses in Yahoo mail, however I want to block an entire domain.
I have tried tthe *@domain name with no success.
