Eliminate Adobe Reader 8 "please wait while the document is being prepared" Message

5

Finally, a fix for this annoying Adobe Acrobat 8 message when opening PDF's which is displayed during the Content Preparation Progress window. Depending on the size of the PDF you are trying to open, the delay is frustrating.

Eliminate the message once and for all by opening My Computer and navigate to:

C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 8.0\Reader\plug_ins and delete the file called Accessibility.api

Next time you run Adobe Reader, a message will appear that "This version of the Adobe Reader does not support screen readers". Click on the "Do not show this message again" check box, and click OK to have this message not prompt again.

Thanks to the ArsGeek website for finding the fix. Check them out today!

DO NOT do as suggested in the original tip in this article. It can damage your Acrobat installation so that the program fails to start.
Here is the solution from the Adobe site. It tired this and it works. DO NOT DELETE files as suggested above!

From Adobe.com:
Solution
1. Go to Edit > Preferences > Reading.

2. Under "Screen Reader Options" select "Only read the currently visible pages".

Background information
When setting up documents for reflow this message may be displayed. Changing the preference within Reading allows Acrobat to process the current page only.
