How To Find The Version Of DirectX Installed In Windows

4

msdirectxlogo.pngMy son wants to install an older version of Sims Town on his new Windows PC and the setup program is asking me if I want to install DirectX or abort the install if I already have DirectX installed. I don't even know what DirectX is let alone WHERE to find the version information. How can I find what version is installed on my PC?

Fortunately for you and your son, DirectX is installed and there is an easy way to check the version.

  • Click Start
  • On XP Click Run and type dxdiag.exe
  • On Vista type dxdiag.exe in the search box and click on dcdiag.exe in the search results

NOTE: If Windows cannot find the dxdiag program, an earlier version of DirectX may be installed and should be upgraded to the latest version.

  • On the System tab, note the version of DirectX displayed on the DirectX Version line.

@Marko: Try "dxdiag" instead of "dxdial" might have better results. Otherwise Note the Note above: NOTE: If Windows cannot find the dxdiag program, an earlier version of DirectX may be installed and should be upgraded to the latest version.
