livehotmaillogo.pngIf you are one who likes things simple, Windows Live Hotmail is probably for you. While it is not rich in features that will rival  Google Gmail or Yahoo Mail, the new Hotmail interface is simple to use with a short learning curve. For us keyboard junkies, Windows Live Hotmail includes 10 keyboard shortcuts to make editing, and navigating around the inbox and folders that much easier.

Once you connect to your Live Hotmail account, moving around your Inbox and folders can be accomplished with:

Move to the previous item in the Inbox or contacts list —>    Up arrow
Move to the next item in the Inbox or contacts list —>     Down arrow

Move to the next folder —>    CTRL+]
Move to the previous folder —>    CTRL+[

To select and delete messages:

Select multiple adjacent items --->    Click first item, and then SHIFT+click last item
Select multiple non-adjacent items --->    CTRL+click

Delete selected items --->   DEL

If you want to select all messages in a folder or inbox, select the checkbox next to Sort by date under the toolbar.

Once messages are selected, you can also left click and drag messages to any folder, or by right clicking, messages can be: Mark as read, Mark as Unread, or marked as Junk.

When composing messages, you can use these editing shortcuts:

Copy text --->    CTRL+C
Cut text --->    CTRL+X
Paste text --->    CTRL+V

None of these shortcuts function for me. Is there a procedure to enable shortcuts?

Nope, there is no procedure to enable the shortcuts. Are sure your are running Windows Live (or the classic version)?
