Unable To Name That Tune? This Website Can
How many times has this occurred? You're humming a song but you can't remember the title or
artist name. And, your too embarrassed to ask someone for fear of 'sounding' like a fool.
Fear no more, thanks to a website called Midomi.
Midomi allows people to search their database for a song by singing, humming or whistling
part of the unknown tune. The site then returns search results that include commercial
recordings or versions of the song recorded by others who have used the site. Search queries
can also include the song title or artists.
Midomi search technology is very impressive. Known as Mars (Multimodal Adaptive Recognition
System) the system can recognize misspelled words and searches will return the exact
section of a song that matched their voice sample.
Here's the coolest part, searches will return the original artist song and all user
contributed versions of the song. Midomi features an extensive digital music store with a
growing collection of more than two million legal music tracks.

A Musical Social Networking Site
Just like your favorite social sites, this site lets you sing your favorite songs, share them with your friends via email, and get discovered by other Midomi users. You can
listen to, comment and rate other users musical performances, see their pictures, send them
messages, and buy original music.
Membership is free and you can create a profile that lets you make various parts of your
profile public or private. You do not need to be a member to search for songs.
This site has great potential and will be a hit at any party. Midimi works anywhere and only
requires Macromedia Flash plugin for your browser of choice.
…Oh yea, a good singing voice is not required.
