I downloaded the Shexview.exe and disabled all pink items of type "Context Menu". I've also disabled "Automatically search for network folders and printers" in the Folder Options > View.

I still have this problem… the delay is apparent on files, folders and applications… for example – right-clicking on an email in Outlook…. I'm getting desperate… and other ideas?

So I ended up using "log off" my Win 7 system (and logging back on) as a way to get the changes to take effect.. about 30 seconds total. Anyway, after a few such cycles, narrowed it down to the single culprit for my slow right-click problems.. looks like it was NVIDIA (and NOT Norton or Mozy eg):

extension name: OpenGLShExt Class
Type: Context Menu
Description: NVIDIA Shell Extensions
Product Name: NVIDIA Shell Extensions
Filename: C:\Windows\system32\nv3dappshext.dll

thanks.. yeah i was hoping to avoid having to reboot with each change (since the strategy is to add or delete items one by one to try and narrow down the culprit).. it seems from previous posters that they get the changes to take effect quickly. i'm sure i'm missing something simple…

Try rebooting and see if that fixes the problem with items not appearing when right clicking.

hmm, when i "disable" or "enable" the context menu items from ShellExView, it doesn't seem to take effect right away. Do I need to do something to trigger it? [more details: Even though in ShellExView the items say "disabled" right away without problem, I still see that they are enabled when I right click on files... After 5-10 minutes the disabling finally kicked in. Not sure if I did anything meaningful in the meantime (i certainly did NOT reboot, as I was starting to wonder if that was necessary). My slow right-click was fixed (yeah!), but now I want to re-enable items a few at a time, but again, even though ShellExView says they're enabled, the items do NOT yet appear in my right-clicks. It's been more than an hour now so I'm not sure what's up. Any thoughts?]
