Try to delete the $recycle folder in c:. first you will have to enable folder view to show hidden and system files. then delete the $recycle folder when you use the recycle bin again it will reinstall. this worked for me. Or there is a microsoft update to fix this but it told me that this update was not for my system. KB932406 is the update.

I know this hard way. Simply right click desktop->view select classic icons (default is medium icons. The wring icon will be self corrected.

I tried the icon restore utility… I am running Windows XP Pro 2002 SP2…. I just had to reboot, and of course it rearranged all my icons again. I tried the icon restore, and it moved some of them closer to where they were, but there were still quite a few in different places than I originally had them… any other suggestions?

To display the recycle bin on the desktop…

– right click on the desktop and select personalize.
– look to the left pane near the top and click Change Desktop Icons.
– check the box next to Recycle Bin and click OK.

wpcoe what happened to you is that you have a shortcut to recycle bin and not the recycle bin itself on your desktop (i just tried it to see if thats it and the shortcut doesn't update). The way to check is the bottom left corner of the icon has an arrow on it (means shortcut). The sad news is I have no clue as to where the original is…Good luck

A couple days ago I noticed that the Recycle Bin icon was not updating itself to show as "full" or "empty" without right-clicking on the desktop and choosing Refresh. I downloaded hotfix (KB932406 and installed it and rebooted, but the Recycle Bin icon still does not update itself without a manual refresh.

Any ideas?

i did not upgrade from XP to vista. this is a fresh installation. and i did answer part of your question mate > "i m using vista home premium edition"
if its not included in vista home premium then i m okay. if not, microsoft is sure gonna hear from an unhappy customer.

Did you upgrade Vista from XP or are you running Vista Home Basic or Premium? It seems something is missing or it did not get installed for some reason. I checked on a computer that was upgraded from XP to Vista and msg.exe is missing, so something is up.

hello all. i have another problem with msg.exe formerly known as net send.

i m using vista home premium edition. and i have enabled telnet client and server as well. thats from programs and features > turn windows features on.

well my problem is i still cant run msg.exe

i have used command prompt in administrator mode too. but when i even type msg /?

it says that 'msg' is not recognized as an internal or external command, blah blah blah

i tried it in run as well. but it says "windows cannot find and blah blah"

so pls shed some light on this. it wud be really great cos i need to do a lot of netsend via my home network and i dont want to install just another program to do this. thankx
