I'm new to Ubuntu and just installed the latest version, Gutsy Gibbon, on an old PC. I'm trying to use the new desktop search feature but it seems like nothing can be found when I try to search for files I know exist in a particular directory. It seems like the only items that can be found is in my home directory.

By default, Ubuntu (for that mater many Linux distributions) cannot play MP3 audio files. This is because of copyright laws (makes it a restricted format) which prevents MP3 functionality from being bundled with Linux distributions.

I'm new to Ubuntu and want to know how does one manage all these log files? They must be taking up a lot of space. I would like to clean them out, in the same way that I can when using Event Viewer in Windows 2000/XP.

As all Windows users know, running Device Manager will give you an overview of all installed hardware on your System. Ubuntu also includes a Device Manager utility (located at System \ Preferences \ Hardware Information) which is very similar to Windows Device Manager.

For many new users of Ubuntu or Kubuntu, the latest release of version 7.10 (Gutsy Gibbon) could be your first introduction to upgrading to the next release. Fortunately, the process is simple and probably the hardest task you will encounter is waiting for the iso download to complete (yes, it's that easy!).
